The role of the anterior temporal cortex in action

Published in: Scientific Reports

Using fMRI multivariate searchlight analysis during real object grasping, this study provides the first evidence that left anterior temporal cortex automatically processes semantic information about how tools are typically manipulated. Motion-capture data confirmed that tool grasping incurred additional processing costs, supporting theories that this brain region constructs abstract conceptual representations for intelligent tool-use.
